With the vast majority of Americans sitting at home to protect our collective health, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello went live on Instagram Friday (March 27) to acknowledge the importance of safe-guarding mental health during these trying times.
Seated next to each other on a couch, the two meditated on IG Live and went split-screen to host a chat with Jeff Warren, an author and meditation instructor whose “How to Meditate: A simple 30-day program for everyone” (available via the Calm app) the two couldn’t recommend highly enough (they also gave a shout-out to the 10% Happier app). Warren took questions and pushed the praise back on the two pop stars, saying, “I’m blown away by how articulate you are and your good hearts.”
As anyone who’s been video chatting these days knows, there were bound to be some technical difficulties – at one point, Warren’s video froze, and at another, he seemed to be speaking with the microphone turned off. “We’ll just guess you’re saying incredibly wise, profound statements right now,” Mendes joked.
When it wrapped, Mendes addressed anyone who tuned in: “It means the world to me, whether you meditated with us or sat and listened. This is for you and your family.” Cabello added, “We love you guys and we care about you and we’re all in this human thing together.”
Mendes has spoken about his devotion to meditation before, even floating the possibility in 2019 of hosting a meet-and-greet meditation with fans. Cabello has also cited it as a useful practice in her life, saying turning off social media and opting to meditate “helps me so much.”
